I connected with Jodi Chapman in July after we both had articles in Aspire Magazine. Jodi is the founder of a website called Soul Speak, so I immediately knew that we were walking similar paths. She reached out and offered to help with my book launch, hosted a beautiful interview about my journey with From Scared to Sacred, and invited me to be one of the guests for her Coming Back to Life eCourse, which begins October 1, 2012.

I know that I’ve had many times in my life that I found myself saying things like “this just isn’t me!” where I lost myself along the way. Those who have read From Scared to Sacred know that the book starts with me feeling like something wasn’t quite right with my life and throwing my hands up to the Universe because I was so frustrated and didn’t know how to “fix” my life. I got direct guidance from spirit, and I know Jodi and I share similar experiences. I invited Jodi to stop by to share a little about herself and her course called Coming Back to Life!

So Jodi, let’s start with a little about you. Tell us a little about your journey and what inspired you to create this course.

First, I want to say how excited I am to have met a fellow soul sister! My heart did a little leap when we found each other through Aspire, and I’m grateful for our connection.  I was given a helping hand when I needed it so desperately, and this course is my way of offering my own hand to anyone else who is stuck and needing to wake up to their own life.

Just two years ago, I was in a very different place. I definitely wasn’t awake. I was feeling lost and numb and completely disconnected from my soul and from all of life. Like so many of us, I was living my life on auto-pilot. I was alive in the sense that my body was functioning – my heart was beating, and I was getting up each day and going to work, but I wasn’t REALLY living. I was just going through the motions – sleepwalking through life – and I wasn’t even aware of it.

And it’s not like this numbing out happened overnight – it happened gradually over a period of many years. Throughout my life, when something or someone hurt me, it felt like a little part of me left. I’ve always been a sensitive soul, and sometimes it was just easier to retreat rather than feel the pain. I also have lived most of my life feeling afraid and stepping back rather than leaping when I was called to take a chance. Also, I had spent several years in survival mode – struggling to get by financially, and I if I did realize that I was numb and needed to wake up and start living, I would’ve seen this as frivolous and not a great way to make sure all the bills were paid. So all of these pains and fears and struggles piled up on top of each other – creating a dark cloud over my heart. It was just easier to go to sleep and not think about it or feel any of it.

Two years ago, all of the struggles in my life came to a head – my husband and I had to move under very stressful and surprising circumstances, we were having a hard time staying passionate about our struggling gift business, we were drowning in bills with no light that we could see at the end of the tunnel, and we had just lost two people who meant a lot to us. So we were grieving and trying to put our life back together at the same time. All I wanted to do was crawl into my bed, pull the covers up, and wake up when everything was better again. I didn’t know how I was going to keep going.

That’s when the helping hand came. My loved one who had just died began communicating with me from the other side. He was my childhood sweetheart, and we hadn’t spoken in almost 20 years. I was definitely not open to this sort of thing at all, so it took an entire year of him sending me signs and me asking for more signs and on and on before we finally could get to work. And once we did, my entire world opened up. He helped me see that being here on Earth is such a beautiful gift – a gift that we have chosen to be a part of. He helped me see that I wasn’t really living. And he helped me wake up and step back into my life again.

Our journey together has been life-changing for me. Everything changed – all because I now saw things through a different lens. I now know that my time here is precious, and I can choose to come back to life. We all can.

That’s why I created this course. I was given this beautiful gift, and I didn’t want to keep it all to myself. I want to be the helping hand for anyone who wanted to start living again and wasn’t sure how to do it.

I think two of the things that are really important for feeling alive are passion and play. What are you passionate about and what do you do for play?

I feel grateful every day that I am passionate about getting in touch with my own soul and helping others get in touch with theirs. I like to say that I have an inspired drive – this sounds better to me than “workaholic.” ? I am still relatively new to this world of spirituality – or remembering my role in this world, I should say. Because of that, I still feel like a kid in a candy story – wanting to immerse myself in all of it and tell everyone I meet about it. I hope that feeling of aliveness and urgency never turns into complacency and routine.
As far as playing, this is honestly something that I’m still learning to integrate into my life. I haven’t done a whole lot of playing in my life, and so it’s not a default setting for me. I was always pretty serious and contemplative as a child – much more comfortable reading a book than playing. That being said, I do have Wii dancing and Wii Sports Resort, which my husband and I love to play together.  I also love playing with my cats – they are so silly, and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t laugh at how funny they are.

I think these moments when we come back to ourselves can be game changers, but only if we take action on what we learned. Is there something in the course that will help people take action in their lives?

Definitely! This is such a great point, too! I have read tons of self-help books and nothing in my life changed. And we all have done this – we read something and then put it away and forget about it. And then we get upset that nothing ever changes. My husband likes to share the analogy of someone joining a gym and expecting to lose weight just because they joined. So yes, you can sign up for this ecourse, and you will enjoy the videos and the content, but nothing in your life will change unless you take action. And there are SO many ways to do this within the course! The workbook is filled with fun exercises and writing prompts to help you dive in and get to the heart of what’s going on. Each week has a different focus, and the exercises and videos are each related to that. The course is truly what you make of it. It’s based on what I went through to bring myself back to life, and so I know that it works. But you have to choose to wake up – you have to choose to take action. And I believe that when you make that choice, your entire world opens up.

Exactly how is the course going to work?

When you register, you’ll immediately have access to the private Facebook Group, where we are already getting to know each other! You’ll also be able to download all of the bonus gifts and start going through them right away.

The course itself begins on 10/1. Each Monday for 6 weeks, you’ll receive an email with that week’s goodies (the workbook, videos, guided meditation, soul art, etc.). You can either set aside a chunk of time each day to spend on the course, or you can take one day to work through all of it. It’s completely up to you! Every Thursday, you have the option of being part of the live online chat where we can connect about that week’s content.

There are optional assignments every week where you can participate with the Facebook group, too!

All of this is completely optional though and can be completely self paced.

Some of us work better in a group, and some of us work better on our own. This course can be as group oriented or as self paced as you are comfortable with. If you find that it’s too much for your busy schedule, slow down and stretch it out. The material is yours forever, and you can go through it when the time is right for you.

Do you think this is a one-time process?

Remember to flyDefinitely not – I think we continue this dance (as you put it so eloquently) throughout our lives. I will say this though: the first time you wake up is usually a very powerful and life-altering experience. I like to think of it as though you’ve been asleep for a long while and finally wake up. You are groggy and stretching and wondering where the heck you are. And it takes a little while to reacquaint yourself with who you are. This is your first awakening. After that, you may take little naps away from consciousness, but you are never gone for very long. And so when you wake up, it may not be quite as powerful as the first time, but it’s still completely important and essential that you continue this process of staying awake throughout your entire life.

What do you hope that people will take away after the course?

I want them to see that there is another way to live. I want them to really know that we have a choice – we truly don’t have to go through life simply going through the motions and just getting through the day. There is an entire universe out there that we are only just beginning to tap into. Our soul is connected to such a beautiful world – and waking up is the key to experiencing this way of life.

Who are some of the other guests?

Part of my own coming back to life story was realizing that I didn’t have to go through life alone. I used to pride myself on being a solo act – never needing to ask for help – and doing everything myself. Once I opened up and allowed myself to be vulnerable and honest and realize that I could really use some help, my entire world changed. And that’s why I asked so many other beautiful souls to contribute to this course. We each are sharing the same core message in so many different ways, and each way is equally important. And what I love about everyone’s contribution is that each one is a direct reflection of who that person is – who they are at their core. My videos are pretty quiet and reflective, whereas others are more buoyant and lively. Some have concrete exercises and lessons, while others share heartfelt stories that pull you in even though you may just be meeting them for the first time. We all have so much to share with each other, and this course is such a great representation of how beautiful our world is when we open up and collaborate with each other.

Your contribution is a wonderful reflection of that. It is heartfelt and genuine, and exactly what I was hoping it would be. A complete list of the 35+ contributors can be found at the Coming Back to Life Website, but here is a short list of some of the souls who share their heart inside the course:

Where can people find out more?
Please go to the Coming Back to Life page.  You will learn all about the course, including each week’s content, a detailed description of all that you’ll receive in the course, and a complete list of bonus gifts that you can download immediately!

What else would you like to share?

We have all felt disconnected from our soul and the universe throughout our lives. This is completely normal. And when we feel this way, it can be hard to know how to plug back in. When I was feeling numb, I had a friend help guide me back. That’s why I created this course – to be that helping hand for you. To offer concrete tools and a loving community to support you in your journey back home. I would be thrilled if you joined us. Isn’t it time you came back to life? Isn’t it time we all did?

Absolutely Jodi!  The one thing I learned in the last few years is that we have choice to come back to life and learn how to participate or dance with life or we can stay stuck.  Thanks for giving an opportunity to come together, learn and share!  And thanks for doing this interview!

In the interest of full disclosure, I am an affiliate with the Coming Back to Life eCourse and receive a referral fee for each person who signs up for the course from the links on my website.  That said, I’m excited about the discussion that Jodi is bringing to the table and I felt an instant soul connection with her.  I believe it is going to be great!
