A reminder today about having compassion for self from Pema Chodron:
“Compassion isn’t some kind of self-improvement project or ideal that we’re trying to live up to. Having compassion starts and ends with having compassion for all those unwanted parts of ourselves, all those imperfections that we don’t even want to look at.” Pema Chodron
Most “achievers” I know are very hard on themselves. I know I am. We can get so caught up in getting ahead and doing things right that we forget to love and have compassion for ourselves. We forget to embrace being human. But what if all that beating ourselves up for not being “good enough” was replaced with compassion for ourselves on the journey? Would it mean we wouldn’t work as hard or would it make all the things we are trying to do easier?
Pondering that today. Off to do my meditation and see what unwanted parts want to come out to play.
