I was reminded of this quote by today’s meditation on the Chopra Center Meditation Challenge. Love needs to be inner directed as well as outer directed. Most of the great spiritual teachers say this. Buddha told us this.
I was raised Catholic. It took me years to realize that implied in Jesus’ teaching “Love your neighbor as yourself” was the idea that I needed to love myself more completely to be able to love others from that beautiful place of unconditional love.
How many times do we set up conditions such as: “I’ll love myself when I lose weight/when I accomplish “X” or only when I’m perfect, not when I screw up”? Releasing the conditions that we place on ourselves, opens our hearts to fully express the love that we are in the world.
Remember you deserve your own love! Self Love is the place where our true essence meets the world. Namaste!
How can you love yourself a little better today?
