Stillness reminders

This week’s Shifting From Scared to Sacred focuses on the need for stillness and how we get reminders telling us to slow down so that we can hear the messages of our spirits.   You can catch it at 7am Sunday, September 1 or anytime after on demand by following this link to the Creating Calm Network on Blogtalk.  I talk about my experiences in the last few weeks of feeling out of sorts and getting messages from many sources that were telling me to slow down and be still including a visit from a praying mantis that decided to hangout on my front door.

Praying Mantis as an animal totem brings messages of stillness and perhaps needing to take a step back from the busyness of life in order to be able to hear your inner voice.  This certainly struck a chord with me. I have been running around working so hard trying to keep everything going that I haven’t really been listening the way I could have been. And spirit was quite insistent that I get the message as it keep coming to me in multiple ways. Listen to the show to find out more.

I promised in the show that I would post this lesson from Chapter 7 of From Scared to Sacred called Hush!

It is a reminder that I need to hear again and again.  Maybe you do too!

Hush! Your spirit calls you to be still. Don’t ignore it. You think that there are so many more important things to do. You find life isn’t working, so you do more. Your energy—your spirit scatters to the wind because you keep doing—filling your calendar with activities and feeling no peace. Eating food but never satisfying the hunger in your soul. You are terrorized by the voices in your head which tell you “you aren’t good enough—do more,” because no matter what you do it doesn’t seem to work. It is like you are flogging a beast of burden that is doing all it can do and you keep beating it and beating it until it falls down exhausted and refuses to move.

You desire peace and yet you do everything but sit still. You run from who you are. You run from stillness and acceptance. You are exhausted and yet you fight stillness because you are afraid: afraid of knowing who you are; afraid of listening to the voices in your head and heart; afraid of realizing the areas that you are hurt and separated from wholeness; afraid of the challenge of healing those hurts; afraid of admitting the times that you feel that you haven’t lived up to the callings of your spirit; afraid of living from a sacred heart.

Stop. Just Stop. Stop running. Ask for help and guidance and then be very still and quiet. Stop doing and start listening. Consider the possibility that I am whispering to you all the time but you can’t hear it because you are so busy. This is the surrender I ask for. When you listen to my presence inside, your body will flood with peace. You need silence so that you may hear. Stop talking, stop doing and sit now. Stop. Be Still. Hush!

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods.”

Where do you need to slow down, step back and hush, in order to be able to hear what your spirit is trying to tell you?
