(coming soon!)
If you are living scared there is a good chance that within you is a deep seated story that you aren’t enough. Perhaps it is an old religious story about how human beings are inherently sinners; or you’ve bought into the cultural story that the world outside is a scary place where you must be careful. Perhaps your family stories say things like—there are people who are successful and happy for whom it all comes easy but we aren’t those people. I’ve lived these stories most of my life. While to a good portion of the world I looked fearless, it was all an act covering up layer after layer of insecurities and fear that held me back—from success, from love, from life.
I was embarrassed. I had done so much work on myself–therapy, workshops, and had amassed a collection of spiritual and self-help books large enough to jokingly call it the library, and yet, my life wasn’t working. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. One day while I was writing in my journal I threw a tantrum and asked a question that expressed a longing from deep within my soul, “WHAT? What do you want me to do?” and to my surprise a calm voice that gave me goose bumps replied:
Listen and don’t judge. Sit and write and let me flow through you. I have many books to write, many stories to tell, many miracles to perform. And I want to use you. . . . Will you commit to be with me an hour everyday to take down the messages?
My first response was, “You want me to do what?” My second response was to commit to writing and see what happened. I wasn’t one of those woo-woo people–the types that claimed to channel voices of spirit entities. And the idea that God might me speaking to me directly was a little frightening. The God of my childhood was capricious—loving one moment, spiteful and threatening the next. I was afraid that voice would tell me that I wasn’t doing enough; I wasn’t good enough. People who claimed to hear the voice of spirit were different—they weren’t like me. They were enlightened. They were saintly. They loved to meditate. They traveled to exotic places like India or they were ultra-religious, totally committed to living in spirit like a cloistered monk. Perhaps even they were a bit delusional, like the homeless man near my office building who swears that God has told him the end of the world is near. I am none of those things.
I am a woman who took the time to listen to the Voice inside that asked her to take down some messages. From Scared to Sacred contains those messages from that Voice and corresponding essays that I wrote as I tested the teachings to see if I could apply them to my life. Some of the stories are funny; some are slightly ironic; some are heartfelt. I talk about key events and people that molded my spiritual life and about the doubts and wonders of developing a more personal connection with spirit. The result is a book that is warm and touching, irreverent and funny, uniquely infused with energy, and vividly real with wisdom that connects to both the skeptic and believer in each of us. We are human and we are spirit and those two aspects are here in this amazing dance called life.
It is just a small transposition that changes the word scared to sacred. It is similar small shifts in our consciousness that allow us to move from living ruled by our fears, to living in sacred connection to our highest and most authentic spirit. From Scared to Sacred is an invitation to join me in exploring the lessons from The Voice and your own connection with the sacred within.
I’m in the final stages of production right now. My goal is to have a book launch in May. I can’t wait till you can read it!
