[...] My sleep has been off this week as I went to two concerts by one of my favorite rock guys–Marty Casey on Friday and Sunday night. Each night I was up past 3am. I am naturally a night owl so staying up late isn’t difficult for me but getting up and going in the morning after staying out till 3am sure is. But for me Marty is worth it. Marty is one of the most talented front men I have ever seen in person and one of the most gracious men I have ever met. He’s totally worth losing a little sleep to watch him perform. If you want to read a little bit more about my Marty obsession read this post from 2006 about buying a ticket.
Right on! I find that now that I'm older I listen to the lyrics more. It's shocking how many offensive lyrics I didn't pay attention to in the 70's and 80's.
Hope all is well - I see you haven't posted for awhile.

Ricardo-

Thanks for commenting. I learned when I was managing employees at the law firm that giving correction or feedback is an artform. And often no matter how hard you try to make it helpful or constructive many of us are wired to first be defensive or hurt by the comments, even when they come from the best of intentions. I love The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book) by Don Miguel Ruiz. One of the agreements is to not take anythng personally. That is a challenge for most of us but I find it helps when we realize that badly delivered feedback is more a function of the discomfort of the person giving the feedback than anything we did or deserve.

Have a great day!

Carol

The opening to Dale Carnegie's book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People," has a very powerful message. And evidenced properly through a series of examples, the message is to never criticize people as you will only create resentment.

Granted there is such a thing as constructive criticism which is essential to developing one's self. But for there also exists that resentful criticism. And it's this kind of criticism that one needs to shy away from.

And for those subjected to it, you've provided some excellent advice. And that is to say, "I need time to process what you are telling me before I can respond."

Best,
Ricardo Bueno

Hi Kathy-

I think you thought Sadie has fleas. Thanks for being concerned. I use Frontline and we aren't having a flea problem. No our problem is more mundane--just a couple of ordinary house flies flying around the house. She hates them! But they aren't even really flying around her they are just in the house! She gets so distressed. I think she feels she's failing because she can't catch them. Thank goodness the problem with go away on its own once the weather cools down.

Great lesson, but poor Sadie! My sister used to have a Lab mix named Sally who had flies, and the vet was able to give her some oral medication to take care of them. Not sure if you tried that yet!
ps - I just added you to my Local Bloggers blogroll.

Interesting, I don't believe we are unworthy. I believe we only think that we are and that is the mistake.

The mision for me is to find the loveable parts of myself and others around me everyday.

Yes we do things that are not of the highest good and there are many times we fall short but I don't believe that makes us any less loveable. In fact, I believe as we acknowledge our humanness and vulnerabilities we become more loveable not less. Don't know if that makes sense or not.
